In this day and age it’s important not to be a one-trick pony. I’m amazed how much my tuna fishing has evolved over the last few years. Some of it has to do with the introduction of new gear and some of it can actually be credited to just being frustrated. I have a feeling there is something that you might learn from this article that will help you catch a few more tuna.
OUTRIGGERS
I have really nice Gemlux 18-foot carbon fiber outriggers. You would think that I would never take them off my boat, but I do. In the spring when I’m chasing bass and bluefish, my outriggers are not on my boat. Once the bluefin show up, I put them on the boat. But I don’t leave them on for the rest of the season – I remove them when the yellowfin show up.
If you have a big sportfisherman I don’t expect you to take your outriggers off your boat. Most sporties’ outriggers are off to the side and vertical, unlike center consoles where the outriggers are usually right above prime casting space in the stern.
